Howzat for service!
Posted: 26th January, 2022
We’re proud to have partnered with a fantastic charity, Bat for a Chance, by carrying a shipment of cricket equipment to Barbados this month. Bat for a Chance was founded by 17 year old Will Gaffney with the aim of supplying cricket equipment to disadvantaged schools across the World, to create joy and drive opportunity through sport.

This was their first equipment drop of 2022 with the contents being delivered to a number of girls schools on the island, supported by the Roland Butcher Cricket Academy: Springer Memorial Secondary Girls School, Christ Church Girls Primary School, and to the University of the West Indies Female Cricket Team.
The kit handover was celebrated on Monday 24th January with a launch event at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, where England and the West Indies are playing in the T20 International Series. Virgin Atlantic’s Caribbean Country Manager, Hannah Swift, attended the event on our behalf and it was a resounding success – we’ve been bowled over by the opportunity to have played a part in such a great mission!
Paul Fallon, Head of Commercial at Virgin Atlantic Cargo, said “We couldn’t be more thrilled to announce our partnership with Bat For A Chance to bring our expertise in transporting cargo to such a worthy project. We’re also grateful for the support of our freight forwarding partner, Woodland Group, in supporting this shipment. At Virgin Atlantic, our purpose is to empower everyone to take on the world and use our business as a force for good, through our communities, our people, and our partners. Partnering with Bat For A Chance means Virgin Atlantic Cargo is able to bring a real opportunity for children to participate in this wonderful sport and experience the joy of cricket, in both Barbados and across the world. As we look to the future, we can’t wait to see what this partnership holds next, as we continue working together in this exciting chapter.”
The Charity’s founder and CEO, Will Gaffney, said “We are so grateful to Virgin Atlantic Cargo, The Woodland Group, Roland Butcher and Cricket West Indies for helping us bring this project together. It is a great start to 2022 - a year which will see us bring together corporates and donors in tangible investment into cricket projects in the UK and globally. Bat For A Chance has the simple aim of breaking down barriers which prevent people from having access to opportunities to play the wonderful game of cricket.”
Huge thanks to Woodland Group, Dnata UK and Skyline Services for all of their help in ensuring the safe arrival of the cargo! We are excited to see what the future brings and are looking forward to supporting Bat for a Chance with several more equipment drops across our network later in the year.
